Yard signs: 4mm vs 10mm coroplast, stakes and what to print
How to choose coroplast thickness, single or double sided, stakes and a layout people can read from the street.
4mm or 10mm
4mm corrugated plastic is the standard yard sign: light, waterproof and economical. 10mm is stiffer, resists wind and repeated handling better, and suits signs you collect and reuse.
Single or double sided
Signs placed parallel to the road can be single sided. Signs facing traffic from both directions should be double sided.
Stakes
Wire H-stakes slide into the flutes of the plastic. The flutes run in one direction, so tell us the orientation of the sign.
Layout that reads at 30 mph
- Five to seven words at most
- Name or offer, then phone or web address
- High contrast: dark on light or light on dark
- No small print
Check local rules
Many towns and HOAs restrict where and how long temporary signs may stand, and campaign signs may need a paid-for-by statement. You are responsible for placement and required wording.
