Hard proof
A hard proof is a physical printed proof used to check color, fit, folding or finishing before the full run.
Ask for one when a brand color has to match, when a piece folds or fits into something, or for anything expensive to reprint. It takes longer than a PDF and may carry a charge, but it is the only proof that shows how ink looks on paper.
Not sure what your job needs? Ask the people who print it.
