Spot color

A spot color is a single premixed ink printed from its own plate, rather than built from CMYK dots.

Spot colors give solid, consistent logo colors and are common on letterhead, envelopes, forms and one- or two-color jobs. A one-color job in a spot ink can cost less on offset than full color. Digital presses usually simulate spot colors in CMYK.
